A couple of items:

Item #1 – Yesterday, the gauge at Lake Casitas displayed it’s lowest level in almost a year and a half, at 32.9%.  It went up .1% due to yesterday’s rainfall, to 33.0%.  The high water mark over the last year and a half was 44.5%, recorded on 5/2/2020 (after the 2019/2020 seasonal rainfall of 19.01 inches).  For the record, last season’s 2020/2021 rainfall (6.05 inches) was the lowest seasonal rainfall we’ve received since I started recording rainfall data during the 2012/2013 rainy season.


Item #2 – How to really freak yourself out in just a few, simple steps:

  1. Sit on the bottom step of your stairway to tie your shoes.
  2. While doing so, notice a random wood screw lying on the floor and wonder, “where did that come from?”
  3. A few minutes later, walk up the same stairs and notice another screw laying a few steps up the staircase.
  4. Look at the ceiling and nervously wonder aloud, “As these falling from the ceiling?” – even though you know that’s not even remotely possible.
  5. Now reach the top of the stairway and walk towards your bedroom and see THREE screws grouped together in a pile just outside the doorway.
  6. Engage your racing mind and start to freak out.  “What the……?  How could I have walked past these and not seen them this morning?  Did the dogs get into the garage and somehow open up a drawer that contains screws, grab a mouthful, and spit them on the carpet – even though they’re located 5 feet off the ground and clearly inaccessible – not to mention the dogs would’ve had to figure out how to open the door to the garage?  Did a burglar break into the house and rather than steal anything, plant random screws throughout the house as some sadistic, mind-bending prank?  Are the dogs playing a prank?”

Yep, that was me this morning.  After step #6 above, I figured it out:  About two weeks ago, I did a home project that required me to grab a handful of assorted screws from one of the garage storage drawers.  I had put them in the pocket of my jeans and forgotten to take them out.  Those jeans were in the laundry basked I carried downstairs this morning in preparation for doing laundry later this evening.  They were obviously jostled out of the pants pocket as I walked around with the basket.  I didn’t hear them fall because I was listening to music with ear buds.

And now as I’m relaying this story, I realize – what if I hadn’t made the connection to my home project from two weeks ago?  I would’ve put those jeans in the washing machine and undoubtedly would have found (and heard) another 30 or so screws banging around!  I might’ve actually freaked out at that point.  Halloween must be upon us.

No new listings to report today, but I am happy to report that we’ve received 1.06 inches of rain thus far (at least according to my weather station)!  I’m looking forward to the day when I can snap a photo of all the people standing on the Baldwin Road bridge as they watch the water flow down the river.  (It usually takes 2 or 3 inches of rain at a time for the bridge people to make their appearance.)  It practically feels like another holiday we can all celebrate…

There are no new listings for today.

So far this month we have only seen five new properties come on the market (not including a property that was already pending before it was listed, and a property that was already sold before it was listed).


A recent check on mortgage interest rates has standard loans at 2.99%, with Jumbo loans at 3.125%.  However, all indications are that we’ll see standard loan rates increase to about 3.2% by the end of the year, and perhaps 3.5% by the end of January, 2022.

What an amazing evening of thunder, lightning, and rain yesterday!  What’s most surprising to me is that my dogs aren’t the slightest afraid of thunder.  Just a tip if you have dogs that shake and tremble during thunderstorms; have them lay down and then put a heavy blanket over them.  I used this technique with great success with some of my previous dogs.  Give it a shot!
