I was able to get away for a few days from 6/25 through 6/29, where I drove to Truckee, CA (just north of Lake Tahoe) to spend time with Cheryl’s side of the family.  It was my first “trip” out of Ojai since February, 2020.  I was able to get out and mountain bike a bit, but the high altitude really affected my cardio!  I also discovered that I am NOT an expert trail rider – as evidenced by the two tumbles I took off the bike, as well as the gash on my arm.  I took a less challenging trail the day after my encounters with the earth, and was able to get in a couple of nice photos:

A correction from my blog post on Friday: Ventura County is still publishing Covid stats, but they’re posting them on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday instead of every week day.

 

An update on new listings over the last 30 days:  From May 20th to June 20th, 52 new listings came on the market.  Although this is 20 fewer new listings than the period April 20th to May 20th, 52 new listings at this time of year is a good number when compared to the prior 7 years.

 

I’d also like to point out that of the 22 new listings under $1,000,000 that have come on the market in June, only 8 are in escrow at this moment.  A sign of a relaxing market?  Could be.

 

I had a wonderful get-together/bbq with friends on Saturday night.  Gosh, it was a beautiful night as we watched the sun set over the mountains, followed by gazing at the moon and stars, glasses of wine in hand.  It was a vintage Ojai evening.  And I learned one very important item; the phrase “3 dog night” was coined when people found it necessary to have 3 dogs climb into bed with them in order to keep from freezing.  The phrase was eventually cemented in literature in Jane Resh Thomas’ book, “Courage at Indian Deep.”  Never stop learning, folks [and thanks, Rosi]!

With the state of California officially re-opening on June 15th, it looks like they’ve stopped publishing Covid testing statistics and cases for Ventura County.  At one point – back on 8/21/20 – I posted the Covid doubling time numbers.  At that time cases were doubling every 37 days.  We eventually made it to cases doubling every 102 days on 11/25/20.  The holidays took their toll, however, as the number of days for cases to double dropped to 21 days on 1/19/21.  Finally, whether it’s through mask wearing or vaccinations (or a combination of both), the last posted numbers for Ventura County indicated cases were taking 166 days to double.  I hope we can keep it up.

Great job by firefighters in squelching the fire by Lake Casitas!  I live about a mile from where the fire was located but I wasn’t overly concerned, as the winds were next to nothing.  I was able to witness a couple of fire retardant drops from aircraft in the area, which was pretty awesome.  Stay cool out there today!

There are no new listings on the market for today.  But I did notice in the Ojai MLS that “caravan” (or what is also called “broker preview”) begins Friday, June 18th.  This is a big deal for realtors, as it allows us to get out there and see properties that are new on the market.  It’s been unsettling showing property over the last 15 months – having not previously seen 95% of the homes we’ve been showing.  I’m looking forward to getting out there and seeing realtors out in the field again!

Congrats to our clients/sellers on 330 N. La Luna Avenue, who closed on their home!  Further congrats go to teammate Sheryl Whipple, who instigated and worked on this deal.  That one was a doozy; we had 17 offers, with all but one of them over the list price.
